7/8 Girls Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Girls 14U (7/8) Team

1. What are the goals of the program this year?

The primary goal of our recreational 14U program is still to have fun! We'll continue to build on the strong fundamentals the girls have worked on in previous seasons, and we welcome anyone who's new to the sport who wants to play. We'll introduce more strategic and tactical concepts where the girls will learn how to employ their passing and catching skills on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. We'll emphasize establishing a settled offense and implement a few set plays. We will also place emphasis on a cohesive defensive strategy. We will continue to build on teamwork, camaraderie, and apply lessons we learn from lacrosse to life. We will not only provide our players with the opportunity to learn lacrosse, but also emphasize honoring the game, our teammates, and our opponents.

2. How many games does the team play and who are our opponents?

The 14U teams will have a regular 10 game season playing opponents from all over the Puget Sound area, including Tacoma, Puyallup, Bainbridge Island, Seattle, Bellevue, and Auburn, to name a few. Approximately 50% of the team's scheduled games will be home games.

3. Who will coach the program?

This is a great question! GHLA is a recreational program, which means we rely on volunteer coaches, as well as an all-volunteer board, to keep our club going. All of our current coaches began coaching when one of their children began playing lacrosse! The club supplies certification training and will work closely with new coaches to get them up and running with their team. It is exciting to learn right along side your player, so please consider volunteering to become a coach. No prior lacrosse experience is necessary. If you are interested in coaching, please contact our Girls Youth Athletic Director at [email protected] for more information. In addition to coaching, there are many other opportunities for parents to become involved such as assistant coach, sideline manager, timer, scorekeeper, field liner, and team parent. Each of these roles provides a chance to learn more about the game and be close to the action!

4.  When does the program begin and end?

The 14U teams will start practice the last week of February. Practice location and times won't be available until mid-February, but players can expect to have 2-3 practices per week. Games will begin in mid-March and run through the first weekend in June. All 14U players are expected to play in the end of season jamboree/tournament.
